"Well, anyone who dares sets out to follow their dreams is bound to face a lot worse than a dip in the carnal."
This has got to be the most motivational speech I've ever heard. Nanny gave it to him hard and direct.
Sorry.
Where are my manners?
Sing!
No, I don't mean you should sing. Today's review is all about Illuminations' latest animation.
I love the tion endings.
Movie Recap
Buster Moon runs a show with trusted friends and he's a pretty big deal at home until he decides to expand to the big city. His life and those of his friends turn a rollercoaster when they decide to go against all doubt and fight for what they believe in.
The first scene has us watching the elephant, Meena play Alice in Wonderland with music notes after music notes.
I have to admit something.
I've never seen Sing.
Tshusssssss
Don't tell anyone.
I'll be seeing Sing 1 after this.
Let's start with that adorable cute Koala.
BUSTER MOON
(Watching the Irwin family and NatGeo wild finally paid off)
The scene of the determined Buster Moon and very adamant scout shows how we run after people's validations. We want people to tell us we're good before we believe we're good enough.
Sure, performing on a bigger stage to a larger audience is cool, but depending on people's validation just soils our hard work.
➡Fast forward to Nana's encounter.
She ran me off the road into the carnal.
But you're still in one price aren't you?
Someone give her a kiss for me. That's how Nanas are supposed to be: realists.
"Never mind what this person you don't even know said. Do you think you're good enough? Then you must fight for what you believe in. Guts, stamina, faith. These are the things you need now and without it, well, maybe that scout was right. Maybe you're not good enough."
This spoke to me. I've been transitioning into a new career choice and everywhere I turn I feel I'm not good enough. I keep waiting for that badass designer to say I'm good or give me a thumbs up.
I'm literally Buster so I followed his journey intently.
This review will be long.
The ticket purchase and running to the city shows that we must always take a gamble on our lives. We hold ourselves back and once we break free as Rosita said, what do we have to lose?
Sneaking into the venue was ingenious and I laughed a lot. 😂🤣🤣Sorry Miss Crawley.
From Wonderland to Space
Most times we feel our ideas are the best and will always work no matter what. Despite believing in ourselves, sometimes you allow room for reinvention. Buster would have never used Gunter's idea had it not been accepted by Mr. Bobby, the mean white wolf.
GUNTER
This leads me to another thing. Sometimes you need to be like Gunter. Speak up even when all seems bleak. Don't be afraid to share your ideas with people no matter how ridiculous they might sound.
(Gosh, I really need to start taking my advice).
With Gunter's help, the group was on their way to performing on the stage of their lives.
Back to Buster
Don't over-promise what you know you can't deliver because you feel you lose out on a lifetime opportunity.
Buster did so and you can see what almost happened to his little Koala self. Yeah, a throw from a high rise. It's good to be confident, but know when not to cross the line.
ASH
Ash knew when she wasn't being paid well and got off with pride. She didn't even know what Buster had in mind, but she knew she wouldn't be in a place where she wasn't appreciated for her full worth.
Know your worth and never allow people to make you feel less. Fight for what's yours until you gain equality or just leave.
ROSITA
We dream big dreams and have high hopes but when it comes to performing, fear cripples us and will almost make us lose out on an opportunity. Rosita stopped the bus and energized the teammates to get on it to Buster's delight.
But when she saw the heights she had to drop, she crippled allowing room for Portia. But when Buster's life was on the line, she kicked out of it and sprang back to life.
It's okay if your goals scare you once you face them head-on. The only problem lies when you refuse to face your fears and deliver.
JOHNNY
We all crave mentorship from world-class experts, but then it's doesn't always work out as you begin to feel your originality fade away. Johnny was smart. He knew what wasn't working and found what worked and viola like a magic wand, he was glancing and performing incredible dance moves to the disdain of his teacher.
Sometimes it's not you. You just need to find your groove and move to it. Cancel out all fears and stay true to yourself whilst inculcating and reinventing.
MISS CRAWLEY
There's no way I won't mention miss Crawley. Talk about loyalty till death. She has guts and is ever ready to assist buster in any circumstance.
She's dependable, hardworking, and trustworthy, too.
I'm sure many bosses would appreciate a miss Crawley in their life. I got scared when he asked her to hold the fort.
But despite her Iguanish nature she scared the workers into doing their jobs and got Portia out of bed.
PORTIA
There's also that favored person who'll make you look and feel like you're not doing well enough.
I wanted to kill her when she sang Wrecking ball, but later when she accepted the alien role and played it beautifully and even admitted she had overacted, I smiled.
She's nothing like her father, after all.
I'm sorry if this feels so personal and directed to impact your life. I believe animations have a way of speaking to our souls and minds.
I had that feeling with Sing 2 and other cartoons I've watched.
MEENA
Love hits us in the weirdest of places. When you think it's in a concert, you meet it at an ice cream joint.
This story for Meena was about developing self-confidence and striving for what she wanted and didn't have: love.
Happy she got her ice cream man.
CLAY
Grief is a strong determinant in our lives. When we don't cope with it, it leaves us feeling hollow of ourselves. That was how Clay felt and why he refused to sing. His wife was his muse, his joy, and when he lost her, he felt he had lost everything.
If you ever lose someone remember they would want you to leave and remember them in joy and happiness, not sadness.
Clay broke out of his chain thanks to Ash and made the show's ending emotional.
"And I still haven't found, what I'm looking for."
Mr. BOBBY
The big bad wolf of the animation and mean spitted boss. I immediately thought about Simon Cowell. But I don't think Simon has ever thrown someone off anything before.
Bobby was or is a representation of what you'll face while trying to achieve your dreams. They're the hindrances. The problem. Bullies. You'll either succumb or navigate around them.
Turn those obstacles into stepping stones like Buster did and make your dream a reality.
Favorite Scenes
1. Nana and Buster's hard facts
2.Rosita catching Buster and overcoming her fears
3. Ash making the audience sing as Clay makes an entrance
4. Johnny defeating his mentor
5. Buster's face as he watched his dream on stage.
I do have a question.
Won't they get tired of performing the same thing over and over again?
The cast in this movie was enchanting.
Mathew McConaughey, Scarlett Johansson, Taron Egerton, Pharell Williams, Bono, Reese Witherspoon, Hasley, Tori Kelly, Pharell Williams.
The director picked the perfect people to voice out their roles.
Rating: 10/10
If there were faults, I don't care.
This animation was simply beautiful.
