Hotel Transylvania is one of the most successful animation franchises.
Witty casting, wonderful storyline and amazing characters with a blend of comedy.
When the first instalment premiered we got to see a vampire-themed cartoon that took off and won the hearts of many.
Now in its fourth instalment, the question I'm asking is, was three not a good number?
Movie Recap
Hotel Transylvania 4: Transformania looks at life in the castle on the 125th hotel anniversary.
Imagine being alive that long and still having good looks.
Dracula is in a tight spot as to whether Johnny should be fit to run his hotel and thus elongates his retirement.
Johnny, in a bid to blend in, turns to Van Helsing for help and he gets his help in the form of a ray that turns humans into monsters.
Talk about complications.
Little did he know that being a monster has more downsides than perks.
Okay.
Do I like Hotel Transylvania? Yes. Absolutely. With three being my favourite with the whole Makerella dance.
Remember the cartoon came to light with Burna's Boy song: When The Gbedu dey Enter Body.
I can never forget.
Did I want a four? I don't think so. I mean, three was awesome. Why not leave the party when it's still vibrant?
Did I like the four? Well, sort of. I missed Adam Sandler—that's for sure, but then again seeing his mad pals as humans were the high point.
I like how Frankenstein got a better-looking body. He deserved it. But the fact his wife called him hideous when she saw him was just mad.😂🤣🤣🤣
See, I get the plot. They wanted to finalise the father-son bonding moment.
So far
From part one we've seen Dracula try to protect his daughter the way he sees fit. From building a fake town to trying to get rid of Johnny and then bringing Johnny back. It was an eye-opener to the merger that can occur if we learn to accept change.
We also got to see the relationship with his dad and his dad's aversion to humans which was also softened by seeing them together.
Fast forward to the third part and Dracula is forced to take a holiday, to his disdain, but finds his zing true love in the most unusual place: the granddaughter of his arch-nemesis, Van Helsing.
Ericka, having been brought up to hate and kill monsters, learns that monsters aren't what her family portrayed them to be and the massive genocidal summer turns to the best summer for Dracula.
And then we have four which was finally about Dracula accepting Johnny as his weird, crazy, bag-pack carrying self and letting them live as they want.
Throughout the franchise, some questions keep popping into my head.
What are Johnny's long term marriage goals? Unless he wants to die and leave Mavis and his son all alone, he should know he's going to have to become a vampire in the nearest future, right?Same with Ericka. Dracula is the vampire of vampires and she should also know she'll have to turn eventually.
Unless somebody decides to be human. But from the fourth instalment, Dracula isn't looking like someone who wants to be human for the rest of his life.
I missed Adam Sandler. I'm sure many didn't notice he wasn't the one who voiced Dracula, but I did. I missed the guy.
I do hope this is the last and I mean the very last instalment for the cartoon. They've had a good run. They've entertained. It was worth the laugh and made massive box office moves, but it's okay.
No more, please.
I don't want to wake up one day in 2023 and see a new title: Hotel Transylvania 5: Blended Family
And no live-action remakes either.
Rating: 5/10
