Movie Review: Encanto

"Maybe your gift is being in denial." Ouch! That stung. Have you seen Encanto ? If yes, ride along and let's go through fun scenes. If you haven't, book a seat, enjoy the ride. Have you accidentally called it Enchanto instead of Encanto? No need to fret, I also had the same issue the first time I sww the trialer. Movie recap A family is blessed with supernatural powers with each child exhibiting a different power from the other. The magic surrounding the family falls into chaos and it's up to one member of the family to save them all. Madrigal! I've been humming her song for a while now. The tune and beat just stay with you. Plot Massive spoilers ahead. In the Madrigal family we have Abuela, and her three kids—Pepa, Julietta and Bruno and then we have her grandkids—Mirabel, Dolores, Isabella, Louisa, Camilo and Antonio. Pepa, Julietta and Bruno are blessed with weather influence, healing and vision respectively. Their kids Louisa, Isabella, Camilo,...

Movie Review: Eternals

Well, well, well, look who the bad guy is. I've been waiting on Eternals for weeks now and you might wonder if my wait was worth it. You'll need to read to find out now, won't you? Movie Recap A group of men and women tagged the Eternals are created to defeat the Deviant. They stay in their task until they're mandated to live a life.  I don't even understand this recap.  Let's try this. Men and women called Eternals are tasked with defending Earth, or so they thought. Their task takes a turn for the worse as they realise their sole aim on Earth was to destroy it after an emergence. This sounds better. The one thing Avengers didn't have seems to be ever-present in the Eternals. Yeah, you guessed as much, a Judas.  Or should I say Sun? It's one thing when a mere mortal stands true to their ideologies—Hitler is a raging example of how far a man can go in his quest—but when it's a hero, jeez. Especially the strongest hero. I'll try to avo...

Movie Review: Don't Look Up!

Look Up! Every movie has a message. Yes, every movie. Be it comedy, horror, romance, thrillers, etc. There's always an underlying message in the movies. Sometimes these messages are lost to the audience as they focus on other aspects of the movie and other times people get it. For Don't Look Up the message was glaring. It was factual, real, and dreadful. So, what was the big message? Movie Recap (Spoilers ahead) Amidst celebrations of realising a comet, two scientists, Dr Mindy (Leo) and student Dibiasky (J.Law) realise that the comet isn't just passing or hanging out with other Astro bodies, but actually heading for Earth. They scramble to get the word out but no one takes them seriously. The government goes against them and sells lies to the people. The world is destroyed and there's only one person left on Earth. Quite a recap, don't you think? At the point where they discovered the comet heading for Earth, you'll want to sigh and scr...

Movie Review: The Matrix Resurrection

Mr Anderson! So, quick recap.  Mr Smith isn't Mr Smith and Morpheus isn't really Morpheus. I was lost. Matrix Resurrection has me caught in a very tight spot. On one hand, for a generation that saw Neo rise and do the bullet dive move, I had the nostalgia and it felt good, honestly. But I also feel three is such a wonderful number. It gave them an ending. Whether that ending was worth it is discussion for another day. But anyhoo, we have a part four titled Resurrections and it saw a lot of, well, resurrections. Movie Recap Picking up 60 years after Matrix 3 and the "death" of Neo and Trinity, we see the same thing happening again. The Matrix and the real world in existence with few being ignorant about existence of the free world. Though this time, there's a synergy between some machines and humans and we see the former city of Zion prospering in tranquility and technology. I don't know how far to go with this recap. Apologies for the spoilers. Neo...

Movie Review: FREE GUY

Gaming is a habit many of us take up to pass time and relax. Some of us like to play Candy crush and Candy soda, while others prefer the violent ones like Grand Theft Auto, Miami Vice, Deadly target, etc. We also have those who combine both worlds. Case in point: me. Don't get confused.  Free Guy isn't a video game. It's a movie about a video game and it's involvement with reality. PLOT An NPC (Non Playable Character) evolves beyond being non-playable to actually becoming the hero of his city. He develops feelings, emotions and changes the path of all those who come his way. On another end, we have two friends who want to take down the guy who stole their game idea. When both goals meet, every party involved must take a stand to fight together for what each wants. That's enough. I'm tempted to keep going.  MOVIE PROPER The whole movie—which ran for almost two hours—had me invested from the first scene until the very last cast.  Not every movie can d...

Animation Review: Soul

Cast Jamie Foxx, Angela Basset, Tina Fey, Richard Ayoade, Daveed Diggs, Sam Lavagnino, Phylicia Rashad. Way to go Pixar! As an ardent cartoon watcher, it's not every time I see an animation like Soul. The lesson and reason behind the whole animation spoke to me, and I'm sure many others as they watched it. Kudos to them on the casting and breaking records. Summary A middle-aged school teacher gets the opportunity of a lifetime to play with a famous band. While this sets everything in motion for a good life, or rather a life he had always wanted, his dreams are halted when he falls into limbo after an accident. This limbo sets the pace for a revelation like no another, and a chance to do right by a certain 22. Plot When it started, I couldn't say what sort of animation I was going to get. I knew it wasn't the happily-ever-after Disney tradition, but then I just couldn't place it. Thirty minutes into the movie and I'm laughing my ass out. Jamie as a fa...

Freaky; Movie Review

Cast Kathryn Newton Vince Vaughn Uriah Shelton Misha Osherovich Celeste O'Connor Dana Drori Katie Finneran Melissa Collazo Genre: Horror/Comedy. Happy new year to you and yours. It's been a wonderful year, 2020, and now we're ready for 2021. And despite being a new year, there are 2020 movies I couldn't see due to many, many, reasons beyond my control. So, I'll see them and I'll talk about them while I wait for 2021 movies. And if 2021 movies aren't worth it, I'll still see more 2020 movies. So, Freaky , huh? Firstly, kudos to Vince Vaughn (Butcher). Playing out a teen character looked so cool on him. Jack Black has been known to do this effortlessly too, but Vaughn made it delightable to watch. Typical teenager to ask 'where am I?' after waking up in a strange house. The supporting actors were also good with their roles.  Plot As much as I enjoyed the movie, some parts of the plot were just too much of clichés. The regular girl wit...
