Back then, the carbury breakfast show on Stv was the main deal. Every Saturday, my siblings and I would wake as early as 5am just to make sure we didn't miss out on the plethora of cartoons that would flood the screen that day. And when it wasn't Saturday, Galaxy TV and Channels filled the void as we didnt have any decoder then.
This write up comprises non-fairytale cartoons I watched while growing is dedicated to all cartoon Lovers. I hope your favorites make the list.
1.Johnny Bravo
This small-waist big-shoulder character was a favorite definitely. With only love for his hair and comb, nothing seemed to bother him.
2. Malo Korrigan
Not so popular amongst people but his adventures into space with the Space Tracers were fun to watch.
3. Silver Hawks
This outer galaxy heroes were an amazing set, what I loved most about the cartoon was the end of every episode were questions on galaxy were asked and kids given time duration to give an answer.
4. Princess Schéhérazade
Aladdin wasn't the only one who had a genie. This French animations followed the princess and her numerous journey with her faithful and trusted genie, Till.
5. Biker Mice from Mars
We have hamsters running in mills, but have you ever imagined mice riding a bike? Well this mice weren't just riding, there were experts and with each episode the Limburger tower fell and crushed Lawrence Limburger (their arch enemy).
6. Ben 10
The catchy theme song totally sold this animation to kids who would sing and sing till it was over.
-He got supernatural powers he's no ordinary kid, he's Ben 10-
Every child wanted a Ben 10 wrist watch that could turn you in aliens when in need and the fun in his adventures were always heroic.
7. Powerpuff girls
Another animation with a catchy song about Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup -who were chemically made by Professor Utonium- and helped in fighting crimes.
8. Samurai Jack
The prince who searched for a way to go back home and defeat Aku before he took over his kingdom.
One episode that comes to my mind till this date, is the episode that had him walking a bridge for almost 3days, and when he got to the middle the man at the other side didn't want to make way.
9.Freakazoid
The freak with telekinesis and enhanced strength. Triggering his alter ego by uttering the Words-Freak out- and turning back to human using freak in.
10. Animaniacs
Yakko, Wakko and Dot are siblings one shouldn't categorically wish for. Whilst living in the Warner Brother tower and causing mayhem wherever they go, there was always something to learn, like when yakko recited countries and capitals.
11. Pinky and the Brain.
What do you want to do tonight Brain?a
Sme thing we do everynight,pinky.
Try to take over the world.
-It's pinky and the brain, one is a genius the other's insane, they're laboratory mice
Their genes have been spliced-
Those two made an awesome pair back in the days. Coming up with a plan every single night to take over the world must have been stressful.
12. Dexter's Lab
A child genius whose bestfriend was his computer and was in his lab after school.
For dexter, Didi- his sister- made sure she indirectly always sabotaged his plans and brilliant inventions.
13.Flintstones
A cartoon about the stone age and how fashionable they were even having a pet dinosaur, how cool is that?
14. Scooby Doo
Be it Adventures of Scooby Doo or A pup named Scooby doo, the tales of the dog and meddling kids never gets old.

16. Yu-Gi-Oh
This cartoon took me time to understand, Yugi playing cards and trying to help the Pharaoh, my siblings enjoyed it more. Galaxy TV would air it early in the morning and then in the afternoons just as we came back from school.
17. Simpsons
This is definitely old. Homer Simpsons and his not-so-normal family deal with the ups and downs that come up having a Family and living in a community.
18. Courage the cowardly dog
At first glance, the oxymoron here just stand outs. Courage was the name but never the trait, he could be frightened by his very own shadow, but always found a way to help his owner.
19. Looney tunes
There was Bugs Bunny, Sylvester, Daffy Duck, Tweety,Granny etc.
I sincerely never envied Granny's work, catering for every one of them was definitely 'luny'.
20. Winnie the pooh
Memes have now generated from the cartoon, but back then we followed the adventures of Winnie, piglet, tiger and Christopher Robin.
21. Waynehead
This cartoon is just not clear. All I remember was that he had a big head and club foot. But back then, it was fun to watch.
22. Codename: Kids Next Door
This spy-themed cartoon was awesome. They had spy numbers and their Leader Numbuh One brought up plans to free kids from adults rule.
23. Cow and Chicken
Mom had a chicken, mom had a cow, dad was proud he didn't care how.
Growing up, I kept wondering how humans would give birth to cow and chicken, but then, since the upper body parts of the Parents were never shown, who's to tell they were humans.
24. Casper
The friendliest ghost ever. Casper tries to make friends with human kids-breaking ghost protocols- instead of scaring them.
25. Jungle Book
Before it's remake, Channels TV never failed to deliver episodes of the jungle life of Mowgli and his friends while they looked for bare necessities.
One character that also stood out for me was the Orangutan.
26. Danger mouse
Follows the crime fighting spy and his faithful sidekick Penfold who is always nervous.
27. Pokémon
Pikachu has always been my favorite Pokémon, together with his human owner Ash and his friends. I still remember when Ash almost died and pikachu brought him back to life via electrocution.
28. Inspector Gadget
The famous Detective that can expand absolutely any part of his body, just by saying 'Go,go' and the part of the body.
Go go gadget head.
29. Jimmy Neutron
Sometimes, one's own genius could really be too much to handle. That seemed to be Jimmy's case as he was always creating some new invention that was sure to bring mayhem new, together with his friends and dog.
30. Ed, Edd and Eddy
These three are just impossible. With Eddy bringing ideas, they always got summer jobs while also trying to understand girls.
31. CatDog
This conjoined siblings-part dog, part cat- with parents of sasquatch and a frog, deal with the troubles that arise as a result of their condition. With different eating habits and homes built in the likeness of a bone and a fish.
But come to think of it, a frog,a Sasquatch,a catdog. Weird genetics.
32. Mighty Mouse
Here I come to save the day!.
The mighty mouse just like heroes do, always to the rescue. Maintaining his secret identity while living amongst his peers.
33. Rugrats
Every parent wishes they can understand their kids gibberish. For the rugrats, with their diapers and feeding bottle, the try to navigate in the world of adults as everything seems zoomed to them.
34. Voltron
This gigantic super robot which was piloted by space explorers to bring peace and fight evil. Kind of an ascendant of Optimus Prime.
35. Tom and Jerry
Legendary tale of a cat and mouse with their unending need to constantly hunt each other. It was a fun watch as neither parties ever really died while chasing. But whenever they teamed up against others, it was always a fun agreement.
36. Power Rangers
Go,Go Power Rangers.
My favorite ranger is always Red. The leader and head of every ranger station.
Which were your childhood favourites?
